I write for you, my child, so that you see that you must never give up on your dreams, that no matter how hard or how long the journey, you WILL get there.
I write for you, my friend, as we compare our bruises and dream of a life that does not involve fear or pain, for deep down we so want to believe we deserve it.
I write for you, my sister, to prove that you and I have the right to embrace and be proud of our brown skin, that it does not have to mean disgrace or despair.
I write for you who reads these words, for I was once you and in so many, many ways I still am.
